Messed Up 04:29
Back then you liked every little thing That made my body sing All we got wrong was the timing And then you just stopped trying Caught up in a dream of you Reality there but I pushed through You knew my mind, I knew yours We knew the risks, we knew the flaws So in love I’d run away if I could We were two crazy kids never grown up I always knew that I was never enough We just fell in and fell out of love It’s all messed up So just in case I still matter That’s when my heart was shattered And now from here ever after I’ll Pretend it never happened You tried to take all that I had I’d got it good, I’d got it bad Lost all I ever wanted then You took away all my sense So out of love I’d ran away if I could We were two crazy kids never grown up I always knew that I was never enough We just fell in and fell out of love It’s all messed up I’d got it good, I’d got it bad You tried to take all that I had Lost all I ever wanted then You took away all my sense We were two crazy kids never grown up I always knew that I was never enough We just fell in and fell out of love It’s all messed up It’s all messed up We fell out of love So out of love But it’s all messed up It’s all messed up It’s all messed up

When I'm Bad 03:40
Pauly walked out looking for the weekend Emptied 50 from the atm Blew it all on cheap cologne and one shots Took it to his one and only friend But when he came around I had to turn him down Now he resents me With pockets empty Had to draw him a picture and what it said was When I’m good I’m not so good But when I’m bad I’m better I wish I could help you But I’m changing like the weather And if I’m still not understood I’ve found a higher bidder Cause when I’m good I’m not so good But when I’m bad I’m better Meanwhile in the backstreets of my memory Young Brazilian boy, forget his name Took me to his home to meet his family Mamma said I’d put that boy in shame Couldn’t make an exception Left him for deception Just blew him away What can I say? Had to write him a letter and what it read was When I’m good I’m not so good But when I’m bad I’m better I wish I could help you But I’m changing like the weather And if I’m still not understood I’ve found a higher bidder Cause when I’m good I’m not so good But when I’m bad I’m better Couldn’t make an exception Left him for deception Just blew him away What can I say? Had to write him a letter and what it read was When I’m good I’m not so good But when I’m bad I’m better I wish I could help you But I’m changing like the weather And if I’m still not understood I’ve found a higher bidder Cause when I’m good I’m not so good But when I’m bad I’m better When I’m good I’m not so good But when I’m bad I’m better I wish I could help you But I’m changing like the weather And if I’m still not understood I’ve found a higher bidder Cause when I’m good I’m not so good But when I’m bad I’m better When I’m good, not so good When I’m bad, I’m so much better When I’m good, I’m not so good When I’m good I’m not so good When I’m bad I’m better

I’ve got the fever in the night I got the shivers running down my spine And that’s not right Something whispers from the other side I get the fear Every time I feel you coming through You touch a part of me you shouldn’t do I got the fever in the night I got the fever in the night I get those tremors in the dark Something staring deep into my heart And that’s too far Stone cold fingers push me down in time I get the fear Every time I feel you coming through You touch a part of me you shouldn’t do And then you walk around my soul Feel you walking round my soul And then you walk around my soul I feel you walking round my soul I see temptation in your eyes An image burning deep into my brain And that’s no lie Through each pleasure runs the sting of pain And I know If I surrender like you want me to You’ll touch a part of me you shouldn’t do I get the fever in the night I get the fever in the night I get those tremors in the dark It’s something staring deep into my heart And that’s too far Stone cold fingers push me down in time And I know Every time I feel you coming through You touch a part of me you shouldn’t do And then you walk around my soul I feel you walking round my soul And then you walk around my soul I feel you walking round my soul I feel you walking, walking round my soul Walking round my soul If I surrender like you want me to You’ll touch a part of me you shouldn’t do And then you walk around my soul I feel you walking round my soul And then you walk around my soul I feel you walking round my soul I feel you walking, walking round my soul Hey, I got the fever Hey, I got the fever Walking round my soul Walking round my soul I feel you walking, walking round my soul Oh, I got the fever

Patched up and aching, fall to your knees. Your body’s broke in places no one sees One more if you’re able One more if you stay Stretched out on the table cause you’re D.O.A You’re going round and around and round and round again You’re going down and down and down and down again Chained to the table, broke at the wheel Thrown out on the street before the final deal, so Sell your apartment Sell up your car They’re easily parted when you play those cards You’re going round and around and round and round again You’re going down and down and down and down again Gaze through the bottle, stare out the jar Black out the light cause you’re a falling star One more for the ladies One more for the road Fall out at daybreak still on overload You’re going round and around and round and round again You’re going down and down and down and down again You’re going round again Heading on down again When is it going to end? Eyes like a reptile, face pulled on tight Skin looks like leather in the fading light, so Take to the needle Take to the knife Throw off the bandage from your crazy life You’re going round and around and round and round again You’re going down and down and down and down again Yeah! You’re going round again Heading on down again When is it going to end?

Is there anybody sacred in your life? Does anybody need you? I had one thing that was precious in my life I never could deceive you And that’s ’cause I believed you That’s until I hear your Laughter from her room Laughter from her room And if there is some confusion in your mind It should stand to reason All the traces of the sounds you left behind Spoke of your deceiving Shook me from believing All it took was hearing Laughter from her room Laughter from her room It’s all ringing in my head But the world it keeps on turning All the things that you had said Are in flames and now burning, burning Never could deceive you And that’s ’cause I believed you That’s until I hear your Laughter from her room Laughter from her room

It’s cold down here In the basement of my heart It’s cold down here, You better light the flame You better let the fire start Well it’s dark down here In the basement of my heart It’s dark down here You gotta throw the switch Flash a lightning from the sparks Let the fire start Lightning from the sparks Moonlight from the stars You gotta make it happen, Lost in time and space It’s a cold and lonely, lonely place In the basement of my heart It’s night down here In the basement of my heart It’s night down here (So dark) Throw a rope around the moon Steal the moonlight from the stars So lost down here In the basement of my heart So lost down here, You gotta break me out You gotta tear this place apart Let the fire start Lightning from the sparks Moonlight from the stars You gotta make it happen, Lost in time and space It’s a cold and lonely, lonely place In the basement of my heart It’s so cold down here Mmmm You better light the flame Let the fire start Well, it’s dark so dark down here Mmmm It’s dark down here You gotta throw the switch Ooooh Let the fire start Lightning from the sparks Moonlight from the stars You gotta make it happen, Lost in time and space It’s a cold and lonely, lonely place In the basement of my heart Basement of my heart

Sometimes I drink too much And I act so dumb Try to convince myself That I'm having fun But I'm walking with shadows by my side Switching off my phone So I can be alone Don't want to be found This life's is too damn loud When you're walking with shadows by your side And it's never been easy But why is it so very hard? Forcing a smile to hide All of those fading scars And I don't want to show it Or give myself away But I'm walking with shadows by my side My life's a landscape of lies That I have built up to the sky Trying to tell myself That I can be somebody else But I'm walking with shadows by my side It can help to believe That one day I could be At ease and at home And like I've never known To walk with shadows by my side And it's never been easy But why is it so very hard? Forcing a smile to hide All of these fading scars And I don't want to show it Or give myself away But I'm walking with shadows by my side And it's never been easy But why is it so very hard? Forcing a smile to hide All of these fading scars And I don't want to show it Or give myself away But I'm walking with shadows by my side And it's never been easy But why is it so very hard? Forcing a smile to hide All of these fading scars And I don't want to show it Or give myself away But I'm walking with shadows by my side Yes I'm walking with shadows by my side

If I could, I know I’d surely go back there I’m no good, running away where I am Hiding away where I am I don’t need, any more hotels or cab fares If I hear “Have a nice day” one more time I could go out of my mind But I could be back in a day And I should be true to my senses Before I’m so numb I can’t say I don’t think so, I don’t need this All of my roads lead to you All of my memories go back to the start Back to the places I knew Back to the days when I sang From the heart What might change? Are the fields there that I ran through? What remains? What of the friends that I had? What of the friends that I knew? And if there is nobody home Or even a home I remember The pain I would feel there alone Might just hurt me ‘til I break knowing All of my roads lead to you All of my memories go back to the start Back to the places I knew Back to the days when I sang All I need All I want And all that I feel All of my roads lead to you All of my senses go back to the start Back to the places I knew Back to the days when I sang From the heart From my heart From my heart From my heart All of my roads lead to you All of my senses go back to the start Back to the places I knew Back to the days when I sang All of my roads lead to you All of my memories go back to the start Back to the places I knew Back to the days when I sang From the heart From my heart From the heart

Never known anyone look at me the way you do You opened the door to my soul and walked straight through Even if you don't understand I know you try to Connection out of the blue when I now know what I mean to you You got my head in your hands and you open your eyes Kiss away my tears and replace them with sighs I could never want to lose you and now I realise Life is too complex, too beautiful to ever pass on by You'll always know me better Than I know myself Don't ask me where this leads cause it'll shatter Don't ask me where I've been cause it don't matter Don't ask me how I feel you know I'm better Much better for knowing you Much better for knowing you My head gets so fuzzy and so messed up But you'll let me be myself you won't interrupt Whatever's right or wrong, sometimes all down to luck Meeting someone who can give more than they took You'll always know me better Than I know myself Don't ask me where this leads cause it'll shatter Don't ask me where I've been cause it don't matter Don't ask me how I feel you know I'm better Much better for knowing you Much better for knowing you Even when it's hard to say you'll always know the truth Whatever that is worth I'll always be there for you Always be there for you Don't ask me where this leads cause it'll shatter Don't ask me where I've been cause it don't matter Don't ask me how I feel you know I'm better Much better for knowing you Much better for knowing you Don't ask me where this leads cause it'll shatter Don't ask me where I've been cause it don't matter Don't ask me how I feel you know I'm better Much better for knowing you Much better for knowing you

Little Girl 04:19
She’s a little mixed up and a little let down She thinks it’ll be ok when he finally comes around Somewhere back in time she’s covered up the hurt Keeps it all hidden now so far away from her But it’s always there because it’s everywhere She don’t know who she is Where she’s going or where she’s been She don’t know how to turn this round Pick up her pride and finally make it alright now She don’t know who she is Where she’s going or who she’s with She don’t know how to turn this round Pick up her pride and finally make it alright now In the shadows of her memory she remembers a little girl So insecure and wrapped up closely in her own world Always wanting so much just to please To finally feel love could she ever know what it means She don’t know what it means and is falling it seems She don’t know who she is Where she’s going or where she’s been She don’t know how to turn this round Pick up her pride and finally make it alright now She don’t know who she is Where she’s going or who she’s with She don’t know how to turn this round Pick up her pride and finally make it alright now She’s got it on her mind It’s turning round inside She forces it down but it’s always gonna rise She don’t know who she is Where she’s going or where she’s been She don’t know how to turn this round Pick up her pride and finally make it alright now She don’t know who she is Where she’s going or who she’s with She don’t know how to turn this round Pick up her pride and finally make it alright now Make it alright now Make it alright now She’s got to make it alright now Make it alright now She’s got to make it alright now Make it alright now Make it alright now

about

This is the debut album from UK blues sensation Rebecca Downes. The West Midlands-based songstress has now established herself as one of the star attractions amongst the new vanguard of blues performers in the UK, with her unique and powerful voice. Rebecca s voice and performances have been, quite rightly, likened to such legendary artists as the full on Tina Turner, the bluesy feel of Etta James, and the raw power of Janis Joplin.

Back To The Start is an impressive collection of original material, written by Rebecca with co-writer Steve Birkett and produced by Mark V Stuart (Magnum, Jim Lea, Diamond Head and more) of renowned Mad Hat Studios. Songs include the rockabilly shuffle of Basement Of My Heart , the Santana-esque/Jazzy tones of Fever in the Night, and the Southern Soul of When I'm Bad, plus nine other blues gems that will take the listener through an unforgettable musical experience. The lead track from the album, Basement Of My Heart, caught the attention of regional and specialist radio nationwide, fast placing her as one of the most vibrant and exciting 'ones to watch' amongst critics of the genre, and a firm favourite amongst her loyal legion of blues-loving fans. On the album, Rebecca is joined by some of the most highly regarded session musicians from both the UK and the US, who have previously provided the musical accompaniment for artists such as Ruby Turner, Climax Blues Band, Roy Wood's Big Band, Steve Gibbons, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Chuck Berry and many more.

The CD album is the second print since released (produced in 2021) and features updated sleeve notes.
